Privacy Policy

Context

This policy is a part of, and does not and will not stand alone from, the terms governing your use of this site. Please refer to the Terms document to fully understand the context of the following.

Who I am

As stated in the Terms document, I am a private individual and this is a personal blog, which I will use to some extent for my entrepreneurial interests.

I may use third-party services that may impact your privacy, and it is my sincere intent to disclose below those impacts to the fullest relevant extent of my understanding.

Comments

If you leave a comment on the site, the combined software that runs this site will collect and store the data shown in the comments form as well as your IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture from Gravatar may be visible to the public in the context of your comment.

When you leave a comment, your data will also be processed by the Akismet Anti-Spam service (see below under “Where your data is sent”).

Media

If you upload images or other media to the site, avoid uploading files with location or other potentially-private personal data embedded in the metadata. (GPS coordinates are often stored in the metadata of photos taken on phones and some cameras unless you specifically disable that feature.) Visitors to the site can download and extract any location or other personal data from media files on the site.

Browser storage

Cookies or other methods for storing a small amount of data on your computer are used for a variety of purposes, including customization, access control, etc. Third-party cookies may be used for analytics, advertising, security, and other purposes. You may block or delete cookies and/or other client-side storage however you wish, but doing so may disrupt your use of this site.

Embedded content from other sites

Posts and pages on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other sites will behave in the exact same way as if you visited the other site directly.

The other sites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that site.

Who I share your data with

I have no desire or intent to directly your data with anyone for any purpose other than displaying this blog. Obviously, if you post a comment, the site will share that comment with me and with anyone else who can access the page or post where the comment is made. If I receive a valid court order requiring me to share data that may include your data, I will comply with that order to the minimum extent necessary.

How long I retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This allows recognizing and approving follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users with accounts on the site, I also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). I can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data I hold about you, including any data you have provided to me. You can also request that I erase any personal data I hold about you. This does not include any data I am required to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

This site and the database used by the site are hosted on a server in the United States. Third-party services may use servers in other countries.

Visitor comments may be checked through Askimet, an automated spam detection service, as described in the following paragraph.

The information we collect depends on how the User sets up Akismet for the Site, but typically includes the commenter’s IP address, user agent, referrer, and Site URL (along with other information directly provided by the commenter such as their name, username, email address, and the comment itself).

This site utilizes caching in order to facilitate a faster response time and better user experience. Caching potentially stores a duplicate copy of every web page that is on display on this site. All cache files are temporary, and are never accessed by any third party, except as necessary to obtain technical support from the cache plugin vendor. Cache files expire on a schedule set by the site administrator, but may easily be purged by the admin before their natural expiration, if necessary. We may use QUIC.cloud services to process & cache your data temporarily. Please see https://quic.cloud/privacy-policy/ for more details.
